Weekend Wanderings 4.20.12

My weekend is a Phoenix weekend. The heat is here today, and I think it has a chance to be our first official triple digit temperature tomorrow on Saturday. The heat kind of limits activities as far as it goes in the Valley of the Sun. Yet, it doesn't mean there is nothing to do!

I'm sure to enjoy the mornings. Not sure if I can conjure up enough motivation to get a hike in early tomorrow, but I will at least go for a run or take Sonora to play ball at a nearby park. I'm also planning on relaxing Sunday with some friends at some point. This is where the barbeque and swimming pool comes in handy. 100 degrees, no problem with a pool!

One final item of some note is that I am going to watch a movie I've been wanting to see for awhile: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I grew up on spy stories in the latter portion of the Cold War: Tom Clancy, Larry Bond,  and John Le Carre novels, and of course 007 movies and Spies Like Us. A good spy movie still interests me like little else: The Jason Bourne movies, North by Northwest, The Manchurian Candidate, Mission Impossible, Traitor, The Tourist, and even ones like Enemy of the State. But I'm particularly a sucker for movies that have tension and make you think. Farewell is a recent example of a good spy film that covers the Cold War era between French and Russian intelligence (and the US is there too, of course). So, needless to say, I'm looking forward to watching Gary Oldman and the rest of the cast in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

As for what the rest of the weekend holds, I'm not sure. I'll probably try to get in touch via phone with some friends, so let me know if you'd like to chat! I'll probably play some Mah Jong on the computer too; I've been hooked on that recently!

I'd love to hear what others are doing - anything neat or exciting?

  1. That list of movies sounds like fun. =) I am poorly movied though so I have only seen a few of those. On Thursday I went to see Act of Valor. That has a bit of a spy theme but they focus on what happens after the spys get the info: SEAL teams going in and kicking butt. It was a fun movie and quite good too. =)

As for my weekend plans, it's going to be a fair amount of studying as well as visiting a friend's house-warming party. =)
